Els primers mosquiters de doble ratlla van arribar ja a primers de mes. El dia 10 es van trobar al mateix lloc, a Pals, un territ pectoral i un tetolet becllarg que van atraure molta gent. El dia 12 va passar un abellerol persa pel Delta de l’Ebre i el dia 13 es va veure un tallarol xerraire al Delta del Llobregat. El dia 18 es va veure un repicatalons petit al Cap de Creus i el 21 un de rústic al mateix camp on va sortir el tetolet becllarg a Pals (i pel mateix autor).
[First Yellow-browed Warblers arrived early the month. On 10.10 a Pectoral Sandpiper and a Long-billed Dowitcher attracted many observers to Pals, Baix Empordà. A Blue-cheeked Bee-eater was only seen briefly on 12.12 at Ebre Delta and a Lesser Whitethroat on 13.10 was present at Llobregat Delta. On 18.10 a Little Bunting was spotted at Cap de Creus and on 21.10 a Rustic Bunting was found at the same field – and by the same observer- where the Dowitcher had been found at Pals, Baix Empordà]

A Corncrake Crex crex was found when it crashed into the windows of the ‘C’ terminal of Barcelona’s Airport, El Prat de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat rcelona on 3.10.2004. It was fortunately found by a birder who works at the airport (J.Diego González) and brought to the Remolar-Filipines reserve during the World Birdwatch celebration. As it was in perfect condition, it was ringed and released into the wild with great coverage, even from local TV! (see photo below, Ricard Gutiérrez).
On 17.10.2004 a Sociable Plover Vanellus gregarius was found at Arrossars d’Aitona, near Fondo de Llitera, Segrià. It was there at least from 12:30 till 18:30 (Enric Farré). Seen also on 19.10 then a ‘binocularscoping’ photo was taken (Marc Pérez López).And still on 20.10.2004 (M.Perez, S.Sales).See a photo below (M.Pérez)
The first-ever Blyth’s Reed Warbler Acrocephalus dumetorum for Catalunya, an Euring 3 bird was trapped and ringed at Canal Vell, PN Delta de l’Ebre, Baix Ebre on 22.10.2004 (Sergi Sales, N.Rodríguez, J.Antó). See a photo enclosed .

One adult Citrine Wagtail Motacilla citreola was found at antic estany de Pals, Pals, on 17.10.2009 (Àlex Ollé). See a photos enclosed.

On 7.10 a Greater Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga was seen from Turó de Fra Rafel, Sant Fost de Campsentelles, Vallès Oriental (Carles Oliver @ornitho.cat).
The two Pectoral Sandpipers Calidris melanotos birds found on 19.9.2014 at Clot de la Unilla, Almenar, Segrià were still there on 2.10 (Sergi Sales). And on 8.10 (Steve West) to 10.10 (Sergi Sales).
On 24.10.2014 a perhaps ship-assisted Mourning Dove Zenaida macroura was seen at Ciutadella park, Barcelona (Jordi Comellas @ ornitho.cat).
There was a Citrine Wagtail Motacilla citreola at Migjorn grassfields, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià on 1.10.2014 (Quique Carballal @ornitho.cat). On 5.10 a 1w bird was found at Estany de Pals, Baix Empordà (Gerard Dalmau). Seen again in the afternoon (Eikel Delgado,Anna Mallol,Joan Goy,Montse Vilosa & Grabi de Jesus).
On 21.10 a 1w Paddyfield Warbler Acrocephalus agricola was trapped and ringed (ring Y92120) at Alfacada lagoon, Sant Jaume d’Enveja, Delta de l’Ebre. Montsià (Alberto Álvarez). See a photo enclosed
During the month there was an influx of Yellow-browed Warblers Phylloscopus inornatus with over 18+ birds reported.
A 1w Rosy Starling Pastor roseus was seen at at Viladecans dump, camí Real de València, Viladecans, Baix Llobregat on 16.10.2014 (Xavier Larruy, Laszlo Albert). The bird was seen intermitently the following days: 23.10 (Miquel Bonet @ornitho.cat), 26.10 (Miquel Bonet; Bernat Iglesias; Grabi de Jesús).

- Martinet dels Esculls / Western Reef Egret Egretta gularis gularis (n=1)
(1) Montsià. The bird seen last month at Ebre delta was seen again on 6.10 from Mirador de l’Embut, l’Encanyissada, Delta de l’Ebre, Amposta, Montsià (Reserva Natural de Sebes i Meandre de Flix @ornitho.cat).
- Arpella pàl·lida russa / Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus (n=2)
(1) Maresme. A juvenile/1w was seen flying over Órrius, Maresme, on 18.10 (Daniel Roca @ornitho.cat).
(2) Berguedà. A male was seen flying S over Coll de la Creueta, Castellar de N’Hug, on 29.10 (CAR Berguedà).
- Territ Pectoral / Pectoral Sandpìper Calidris melanotos (n=3)
(1) Baix Llobregat. A juvenile was seen at Filipines marsh, Viladecans, Delta del Llobregat (J.Skipper @Delta del Llobregat bird news) until 2.10 at least (Eduard Batista, see a photo enclosed). Then on 4.10 it was seen at Ca l’Arana beach (Ferran López & Jaume Bartra).
(2-3) Baix Empordà. On 10.10 a juvenile was found at Pals ricefields, Pals, Baix Empordà (Joan Goy). It was still around on 11.10 (Pau García Campderròs, Gerard Dalmau, Jordi
Martí-Aledo, Pau Calero, Albert Burgas et al.; Genís Cunill, Jordi Sala, Toni Fernández, Xavier Parra , Josep Crusafont, Sergi Arís, Pere Baucells Colomer, Cristian Bonsoms, Enric Fontcuberta , Sergio Hoces, Carles Martorell, Xavier Idígora, Joan Pujol, Jordi Faus, Irene Barnosell, Oriol Soler, Ramón Ruiz; Marta Jornet @ornitho.cat) and on on 13.10 (Javier Aute; Guillem Saguer Parés, Narcis Garriga, Ignacio López González, Arnau Bonan @ornitho.cat). On 15.10 two birds were present at Pals ricefields (Joan Goy, Xavier Idígora @ornitho.cat).

(1) Tarragonès. On 20.10 a 1w reached Tarragona harbour (Camilo Albert Fernández @ornitho.cat).
(2) Pla d’Urgell. On 31.10 a 4w was found at Estany d’Ivars i Vila-Sana (Sergi Sales). See two photos enclosed.
- Abellerol gola-roig o de Pèrsia / Blue-cheeked Bee-eater Merops persicus (n=1)
(1) Montsià. On 12.10 a bird flew in front of a party of birdwatchers at Erms de la Tancada, Amposta, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Manolo Sánchez-Blanch, Mariska Huub de Graaf, Javier Subirats, Ramon Gasulla, Anna Palacín, Joan Jiménez, Gre Niewwenburg).
- Graula / Rook Corvus frugileus (n=10)
(1-10) Alt Empordà. On 4.10 there were 10 individuals at Figueres, Alt Empordà (Àlex Ollé @birdingemporda.com).
- Cornella emmantellada / Hooded Crow Corvus cornix (n=5)
(1-3) Baix Llobregat. There were three birds at Sant Boi de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat on 5.10 (Carlos M.V @ornitho.cat). These three birds were seen at Llobregat river, between El Prat and L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, on 27.10 (Pau Esteban @ornitho.cat). Again at Sant Boi, five were seen at Parc de la Muntanyeta, Sant Boi, Baix llobregat, on 31.10 (Carlos M.V. @ornitho.cat).
(4) Baix Empordà. One was seen at Torroella de Montgrí on 12.10 (Oriol Soler @ornitho.cat). On 13.10 it was still there (Narcís Garriga @ornitho.cat).
- Mosquiter comú siberià / Siberian Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita tristis (n=1)
(1) Baix Penedès. On 18.10 one was trapped and ringed at Les Madrigueres, El Vendrell, Baix Penedès (Manel Bonilla, Ramón Ruiz Jarillo). See a photo below (Ramón Ruiz)
- Mosquiter de doble ratlla / Yellow-browed Warbler Phylloscopus inornatus (n=27)
(1) Baix Llobregat. On 4.10 a bird was seen at El Prat de Llobregat near the graveyard, Baix Llobregat (Samuel Wechsler).
(2) Barcelonès. On 4.10 one was heard at Santa Amèlia park, Barcelona (Jordi Vàzquez).
(3) Berguedà. On 5.10 one was seen at Sant Joan de l’Avellanet, Guardiola de Berguedà (Oriol Clarabuch @ornitho.cat).
(4) Gironès. On 5.10 a bird was heard calling at Bescanó, Gironès (Martí Franch).
(5) Osona. On 5.10 a bird was seen at riu Mèder al Sucre, Vic, Osona (Genís Cunill @ornitho.cat).
(6) Barcelonès. On 11.10 a bird was found at Parc del Laberint d’Horta, Barcelona (Jaume Campderròs; Arnau Guàrdia @eBird).
(7) Solsonès. On 10.10 a bird was at Navés, Solsona (Ferran Fontelles).
(8) Garrigues. On 10.10 a bird was seen at Mas de Melons, Castelldans, Garrigues (Lluís Culleré @ornitho.cat).
(9) Baix Llobregat. On 11.10 a bird was seen and photographed at Cal Tet, El Prat de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat (Seán Ronayne; Bob Maddox @eBird). See a photo enclosed (Seán Ronayne).
(10-11) Vallès Oriental. On 9.10 one was found (Toni Alonso, Oriol Baena @ornitho.cat) and then two were seen at Montornès del Vallès, Vallès Oriental on 10.10 (Josep Bel @ornitho.cat). On 12.10 the two were still there (Abel Julien; Jana Marco; Xavier Parra; Ramón Ruiz @ornitho.cat). Still there on 14.10 (Pau García Campderròs @ornitho.cat).
(12) Vallès Oriental. On 12.10 one was seen at La Roca del Vallès, Vallès Oriental (Daniel Roca @ornitho.cat).
(13) Vallès Occidental. On 17.10 a bird was heard and seen at Facultat de Ciències i Biociències (UAB), Cerdanyola del Vallès, Vallès Occidental (Ferran Pujol).
(14) Osona. On 17-18.10 a bird was present at Can Mateu, Embassament de Sau, Vilanova de Sau, Osona (Andrés García Ródenas). On 20.10 it was seen again (Andrés García Rodenas @ornitho.cat).
(15) Tarragonès. On 18.10 a bird was found at Torre d’en Dolça, Vila-Seca, Tarragonès (Xavier Riera). On 19.10 it was still there (Xavier Riera, David Molina @ornitho.cat). This bird was still there on 23.10 when bird (19) joined it (Xavier Riera @ornitho.cat).
(16) Pla d’Urgell. On 19.1 a bird was seen at Estany d’Ivars i Vila-Sana, Pla d’Urgell (Oriol Soler @ornitho.cat). On 20.10 it was still there (Quim Minoves). Perhaps the same bird was seen again on 28.10 (Sergi Sales) and on 31.10 (Jesús Nieto @eBird).
(17) Baix Llobregat. On 22.10 a bird was recorded overnight at El Prat de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat, apparently flying over the observer’s home (Seán Ronayne). See a sonogram below.
(18) Segrià. On 22.10 a bird was found calling at Agrònoms University campus, Lleida, Segrià (Quim Minoves).
(19) Tarragonès. On 23.10 a new bird joined bird (15) at Torre d’en Dolça, Vila-Seca, Tarragonès (Xavier Riera @ornitho.cat).
(20) Baix Ebre. On 24.10 a 1w bird was trapped and ringed at Canal Vell Biological Station, Parc Natural Delta de l’Ebre, Baix Ebre (Ricard Poch @ornitho.cat).
(21) Alt Empordà. On 24.10 a bird was seen at Pont de la Muga, Estany Europa, Castelló d’Empúries, Alt Empordà (Ramon Aguilar @ornitho.cat).
(22) Baix Ebre. A bird returned to the trees of l’Ampolla city when other individuals had been seen in previous years on 25.10 (Manolo Sánchez-Blanch).
(23) Barcelonès. On 27.10 one was seen and heard at Parc de l’Estació del Nord, Barcelona (Toni Hernández).
(24) Baix LLobregat. A bird was trapped and ringed at Abrera, Baix Llobregat, on 26.10 (Xavier Larruy, Helena Navalpotro, Carlos Santisteban, Alba Palomo, Quique Carballal i Javier Valladares @ornitho.cat).
(25) Garraf. A bird was seen t Foix river mouth on 29.10 (Ramón Ruiz Jarillo). See a photo below. Later seen by more authors (Albert Cama, Vittorio Pedrocchi, Diego Callau, Xavier Parra @ornitho.cat).
(26) Baix Llobregat. A bird was seen at Fontsanta park, Sant Joan Despí, near TV3 television on 23.10 (Marc Pérez López). On 31.10 i was still there (Juan Miguel Díaz @ornitho.cat; Marc Pérez López, see a photo below).
(27) Montsià. A bird was seen on 29.10 at Riet Vell Nature Reserve, Montsià (Mayca Martí).
- Tallarol xerraire / Lesser Whitethroat Sylvia curruca (n=3)
(1) Baix Llobregat. A bird was seen at Llobregat Delta, Sant Boi de Llobregat rural area, Baix Llobregat on 13.10 (Eio Ramón). See a photo below.
(2) Alt Empordà. On 26.10 a bird was seen at Cala Jóncols, Cap de Creus, Alt Empordà (Joan Goy, Àlex Ollé @birdingempordà.com).
(3) Montsià. On 26.10 a bird was seen at Serrallo beach, Sant Jaume d’Enveja, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Guillermo Rodríguez). According to the author “One bird flushed a couple of times, briefly seen. It called twice with the classic ‘tac’ call and no plumage details were seen that could point towards an eastern origin (eg brown on head, tail pattern)”.
- Piula grossa / Richard’s Pipit Anthus richardi (n=3)
(1) Baix Empordà. One was found at La Pletera, l’Estartit, Baix Empordà on 12.10 (Gerard Dalmau).
(2-3) Alt Empordà. One was found at Can Comes, PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà on 15.10 (Àlex Ollé @birdingemporda.com). On 16.10 there were two birds at prats de Can Túries, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, perhaps one the bird seen the day before or another two new birds (Àlex Ollé, Guillem Arrufat @birdingemporda.com).
- Repicatalons petit / Little Bunting Emberiza pusilla (n=3)

(1) Alt Empordà. On 18.10 a bird was found at Mas de Rabassers, Cadaquès, Cap de Creus Natural Park, Alt Empordà (Guillem Arrufat). Despite search the bird was not relocated later. See a thumbnail enclosed.
(2) Baix Llobregat. On 27.10 a bird was found at Cal Nani marshes, Delta del Llobregat, Baix Llobregat (Marc Noguera). Seen later by more observers.
(3) Urgell. On 29.10 a bird was seen at Conill, Plans de Sió, Urgell (Sergi Sales).
- Repicatalons rústic / Rustic Bunting Emberiza rustica (n=1)
(1) Baix Empordà. On 21.10 a bird was seen at the same field where the Long-billed Dowitcher featured this month was found at Pals ricefields, Pals, Baix Empordà (Gerard Dalmau). See thumbnails enclosed.
