Cueretes rares i capsigrany balear van animar els primers dies d’abril però la grossa va caure en forma d’influx de papamosques de collar a partir del dia 19.4]

[Rare wagtails plus a Balearic Woodchat Shrike added to the April tally by the beggining of the month but the highlight was an influx of Colalred Flycatchers from 19.4 on]

• Fa 15 anys / 15 years ago

On 27.4.2004 a school boy from Palafrugell, Baix Empordà, found an odd bird near home. Once it was brought to the school it was quickly identified as a Corncrake  Crex crex (Mercè Sánchez-Frou). See a photo below (M.Sánchez-Frou).

The Lesser Yellowlegs Tringa flavipes found on 28.2.2004  at Clot de la Unilla, Segrià, was still there on 11.4 (Arnau Sebé), 24.4 (R.Gutiérrez,F.X.Santaeufemia, X.Larruy, A.Ramal) and 26.4 (Enric Farré).

On 29.4 a moulting adult Roseate Tern  Sterna dougallii  was found near the Llobregat river mouth, amongst a few hundred group of Sandwich terns, Llobregat delta, Baix Llobregat (Xavier Larruy; Ferran López). See a photo here (Ferran López).

There was a male  Citrine Wagtail Motacilla citreola within a flock of Yellow Wagtails at l’Embut area, l’Encanyissada, Ebre delta, Montsià on 7.4 (Cristian Jensen i Albert Galofré).

Three Aquatic Warblers Acrocephalus paludícola  were ringed in PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà between 3-14.4.2004: one bird on 3.4 (Toni Alonso, Sergi Sales i Oriol Clarabuch), one on 13.4 (Oriol Clarabuch) and one on 14.4 (Oriol Clarabuch, Albert Ruhí i Josep Rost). See a photo below. This is a rarity in Catalonia and the Mediterranean coast of Iberia. There was one at Closa de la Bomba, PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Girona on 21.4 (Jordi Martí-Aledo, Berto Minobis).

Two Moltoni’s Warblers Sylvia subalpina were seen:  one at estany dels Roncaires, PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà on 7.4 (Sergi Sales) and another at the mouth of Ricarda lagoon, Llobregat delta, Bardelona on 30.4.2004 (Xavier Larruy).

Three Collared Flycatchers Ficedula albicollis were seen too: On 17.4.2004 there was a male at camí de la Bunyola, Delta del Llobregat, El Prat del Llobregat, Baix Llobregat (Daniel Burgas), on 18.4 there were a female and an Euring 5 male at Massís del Montgrí, Torroella de Montgrí, Baix Empordà (Daniel Burgas) and on 20.4 there was one at Riet Vell reserve, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Jamie Durrant).

• Fa 10 anys / 10 years ago

On 25.4 a  Cream-coloured Courser Cursorius cursor was seen at Punta de la Banya, PN Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Susanne Ruppen, Jaume Soler et al / Audouin Birding Tours).

On 13.4 a very possible Great Snipe Gallinago media was seen at Les Olles, Delta de l’Ebre, Baix Ebre (Iván Sarabia). On 22.4 a bird was found at estany d’en Massot, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà Natural Park (Àlex Ollé).

A Paddyfield Warbler Acrocephalus agricola was trapped and ringed at Maresma de les Filipines, Llobregat Delta Nature Reserves, Viladecans, Baix Llobregat on 23.4 (Joan Castelló). See a photos below (Joan Castelló).

A Lesser Whitethroat Sylvia curruca was seen at Besós river mouth, Sant Adrià del Besòs, Barcelonès, on 27.4 (Xavier Larruy, Juan Bécares). See a photo below (Juan Bécares)

There was a male Ring-necked Duck Aythya collaris on 22.4 at Cel·les del SAC, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà (Alex Ollé). See a photo below. This bird was still present on 23.4 at Estany Europa, PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Girona (Pau Garcia Campderròs, Anna Bassols; Miquel Àngel Lucena; Lluís Mir @ornitho.cat), and on 24.4 too (Jordi Faus @ornitho.cat).

A Lesser Flamingo Phoeniconaias minor reached Punta de la Banya, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià on 17.4 (Carles Domingo). On 21.4 it was still there (Carles Domingo, Jordi Martí-Aledo). This bird was seen again on 27.4 (Jordi Martí-Aledo).The bird was seen again on 28.4,when photographed (Ricard Gutiérrez, Carolina García). See a photo below (Ricard Gutiérrez).

An influx of Pallid Harriers Circus macrourus included seven birds at Girona comarcas, one at La Secuita, Tarragona on 4.4 (Albert Cama) and anothre at Alfés, Lleida, on 5.4 (Thomas Kuppel @ornitho.cat).

On 19.4 one American Golden Plover Pluvialis dominica was seen and photographed at El Goleró, Delta de l’Ebre, Baix Ebre (Ricardo Rodríguez, Miguel Grande). See a photo below. On 26.4 it was relocated (Toni Alcocer, Albert Cama, Oscar Llama, Fran Lloris, Carlos Varea et al), and on 27.4 it was still present (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé). The bird remained in the same area into May: 28.4 (Ricard Gutiérrez, Carolina García; Manolo Sánchez Blanch) and 29.4 (Ricard Gutiérrez).

On 22.4 there was a Baird’s Sandpiper Calidris bairdii at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Jordi Martí-Aledo). See a photo below.

Four  Broad-billed Sandpipers Calidris falcinellus were seen at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià: 24.4 (two), 25.4 (one) and 26.4 (another) (Jordi Martí-Aledo).

On 30.4 there was a Great Snipe Gallinago media at PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà (Àlex Ollé).

A Lesser Yellowlegs Tringa flavipes was at El Matà. PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà on 17.4 (Jordi Marti-Aledo), see a photo below This individual remained there on 18.4 (Pere Baucells @ornitho.cat).

• Baldriga grisa / Sooty Shearwater Ardenna grisea (n=1)

(1) Garraf. On 19.4 a bird was seen flying North from Vallcarca harbour, Garraf (Albert Cama).

• Flamenc menut / Lesser Flamingo Phoeniconaias minor (n=2)

(1-2) Montsià. Two adults were found at Punta de la Banya, Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià on 18.4 (Ricard Gutiérrez, Carles Domingo, Toni Curcó; Yago Brugnolli, Emma Guinart, Julia Piccardo et al). See photos below. Perhaps the birds seen in January elsewhere in the Delta.

•  Martinet dels Esculls / Western Reef Egret Egretta gularis (n=1)

 (1)  Baix Ebre. On 11.4 the pure bird was seen again somewhere at Deltebre, Baix Ebre (location supressed for breeding season safety reasons) (Manolo Sánchez Blanch)..

• Presumible híbrid Martinet dels Esculls x blanc / Western Reef X Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta (n=2)

 (1)  Maresme. On 15.4 a bird that might be a pure bird but so far is given as a presumed bybrid was seen at Tordera, Maresme (Arnau Tolrà @ornitho.cat).

 (2)  Vallès Oriental. On 23.4 a nord was seen at aiguabarreig Besòs – Mogent, Montmeló, Vallès Oriental (Enric Fontcuberta @ornitho.cat).

•  Arpella pàl·lida russa / Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus (n=2)

  

 (1)  Urgell. On 15.4 a male was found at Secà de Belianes, Bellpuig, Urgell (Roger Guillem, Joan Rodríguez, Anna Varea). Seen later too near Bellpuig when photographed (Javier Subirats). See a record shot enclosed.

 (2)  Baix Empordà. On 21.4 a female was seen over La Pletera, l’Estartit, Torroella de Montgrí, Baix Empordà (Francisco Sánchez).

• Territ rogenc  / Buff-breasted Sandpiper Calidris subruficollis  (n=2)

 (1-2)  Montsià. A bird firs,then a 2nd were present at Migjorn grassfields, Sant Jaume d’Enveja, Montsià, from late April into early May: 27.4 (Pere Josa, finder of the first; Javier Subirats, Giacomo Sighele, Maurizio Sighele @ornitho.cat; Vicente Francisco Tamarit @ornitho.cat), then two on 28.4 (Cristian Jensen – finder of the 2nd-; Manolo Sánchez Blanch), 29.4 (Toni Fernàndez, Sergi Arís, Xavier Parra @ornitho.cat; Ramon Ruiz Jarillo @ornitho.cat), 30.4 (Ricard Gutiérrez), see two record shots below.

• Becadell gros / Great Snipe Gallinago media (n=2)

 (1)  Pla de l’Estany. A bird was seen at Banyoles lake, Pla de l’Estany on 23.4 (Gerard Dalmau).

 (2)  Alt Empordà. A bird was seen at Estanys del Matà, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà on 26.4 (Àlex Ollé @birdingemporda.com).

• Gavià argentat de potes roses / Herring Gull  Larus argentatus (n= 1)

(1) Garraf. On 4.4 a 2cy was seen at Port de la tèrmica, Cubelles, Garraf (Albert Cama, Ramón Ruiz Jarillo, Óscar Reche).

• Gavià Caspi / Caspian Gull  Larus cachinnans  (n=4)

 (1) Garraf. An adult was seen on 3.4 at Port de la tèrmica, Cubelles, Garraf (Xavier Parra, Albert Cama).

(2-4) Garraf. Two 2cy, and a possible hybrid, were seen on 4.4 at Port de la tèrmica, Cubelles, Garraf (Albert Cama).

• Capsigrany balear / Balearic Woodchat Shrike Lanius senator badius (n=26)

 (1) Montsià. A bird was sene on 5.4 at Erms de la Tancada, Amposta, Montsià (Vicente Francisco Tamarit @ornitho.cat) Seen again on 6.4 (Mayca Martí; Josep Tantull, Roser Solé -photo enclosed-) and 7.4 (Harold Wijts @ornitho.cat). On 11.4 it was still there (Javier Subirats). On 16.4 (Quim Minoves) and 17.4 it was seen again (Ricard Gutiérrez).

(2) Baix Empordà. One was seen at Castell-Platja d’Aro on 11.4 (Joan Goy).

(3) Baix Llobregat. A bird was seen at Cal Tet, Delta del Llobregat, Baix Llobregat on 14.4 (Q.Carballal, Javier Valladares).

(4) Vallès Oriental. A bird was found at Vilanova del Vallès, Vallès Oriental, on 15.4 (Robert Manzano, Javier Mendoza @ornitho.cat).

(5) Selva. A bird was present at Tordera river mouth, Blanes,Selva on 15.4 (Arnau Tolrà @ornitho.cat).

(6) Montsià. A bird was seen at Migjorn grassfields, Sant Jaume d’Enveja, Deltade l’Ebre on 15.4 (Ramón Ruiz Jarillo, Quim Minoves).

(7) Montsià. On 16.4  a bird was seen at Trabucador sandbar, near Punta de la Banya, Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Montsià (Miguel Angel Fuentes @ornitho.cat).

(8) Montsià. On 16.4 a different bird from (1) was seen at camí de  Baladres, Amposta, Montsià (QuimMinoves). Probably the same bird seen a bit to the S later (Javier Subirats).

(9) Montsià. On 17.4 a bird was found at camí del Serrallo, near the beach, Sant Jaume d’Enveja, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Quim Minoves).

(10) Maresme. On 18.4 a bird was seen at Argentona, Maresme (Joan Pujol @ornitho.cat).

(11) Barcelonès. On 18.4 another bird was found at Parc de la Pau, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Barcelonès (Javier Valladares @ornitho.cat).

(12) Alt Penedès. On 18.4 a bird was seen at Embassament de Foix, Castellet i la Gornal, Alt Penedès (Albert Cama @ornitho.cat).

(13) Alt Empordà. A bird was seen at Sa Planassa, Cadaqués on 18.4 (Martí Franch @ornitho.cat).

(14) Baix Llobregat. A bird was at Llobregat river, by Nelson Mandela bridge, on 20.4 (Martí Franch).

(15) Baix Llobregat. A bird was at Gavà coastal pinewoods, Llobregat delta, Baix Llobregat on 20.4 (Daniel Roca @ornitho.cat).

(16) Maresme. At least one  male bird  was seen at Mataró, Maresme on 22.4 (José Manuel Arcos @ornitho.cat). Still there on 24.4 (Toni Fernàndez @ornitho.cat).

(17) Noguera. A bird was seen at La Sentiu de Sió, Noguera, on 22.4 (Diego Callau @ornitho.cat).

(18) Gironès. A bird was at Llagostera, Gironès, on 24.4 (Jordi Soler @ornitho.cat).

(19-20) Montsià. On 24.4 a bird was seen at Erms de la Tancada, Amposta, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Jordi Jover Garcia @ornitho.cat). Still there on 26.4 (Philippe Feldmann @ornitho.cat) while two were reported on 27.4 (Philippe Feldmann @ornitho.cat).

(21) Baix Empordà. On 20.4 a male was seen at Palamòs, Baix Empordà (Xavier Idígora @ornitho.cat).

(22) Baix Empordà. One was seen at Castell – Platja d’Aro, Baix Empordà, on 27.4 (Carlos Álvarez Cros, Álex Lizano @ornitho.cat).

(23) Montsià. One was seen at Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Montsià on 27.4 (Philippe Feldmann @ornitho.cat).

(24) Barcelonès. On 28.4 pme was at Besòs river mouth (Xavier Larruy @ornitho.cat).

(25) Baix Ebre. On 29.4 a bird was seen at L’Ampolla, Baix Ebre (Manolo Sánchez Blanch).

(26) Montsià. On 29.4 a bird was seen at Torre de l’Aufacada, Sant Jaume d’Enveja, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Jean-Claude Tocabens @ornitho.cat). Still there on 30.4 (Peter Buck @ornitho.cat).

•  Graula / Rook Crow Corvus frugileus (n=6)

(1-5) Alt Empordà . There were five birds at Figueres and three nests too on 4.4 (Jana Marco) while on 6.4 four birds were seen at El Far d’Empordà, Alt Empordà too (Jana Marco @ornitho.cat). Four birds were seen again on 11.4 (Ramon Aguilar @ornitho.cat). On 13.4 there were at least four at Figueres (Joan Ventura @ornitho.cat) and also four were seen on 19.4 (Marc Noguera @ornitho.cat).  One was at downtown Figueres on 27.4 (Oriol Baena @ornitho.cat) and three morea t Parc de les Aigües, Figueres also on 27.4 (Joan Ventura @ornitho.cat).

(6) Alt Empordà . What might be an incoming bird from the Rosselló was seen at Alt Empordà at Darnius, flying South on 17.4 (Georges Olioso @ornitho.cat).

• Cornella índia / House Crow Corvus splendens (n=1

(1) Montsià . A bird was seen at Buda island, Montsià, on 3.4 (David Bigas). It’s a proven escape. Seen during the month between Migjorn and Eucaliptus – La Tancada area: 16.4 morning at Migjorn (Quim Minoves) and afternoon at la Tancada (Javier Subirats), 17.4 (Mariano Cebolla, Migjorn to Alfacada), then 18.4 (Jana Marco, Oriol Palau at Eucaliptus),

• Cornella emmantellada / Hooded Crow Corvus cornix (n=7)

(1-2) Baix Llobregat. The nest at El Prat continued active in April. Two birds were seen at Nelson Mandela bridge on 2.4 (Pau Esteban @ornitho.cat) and one on 6.4 (Toni Fernàndez, Sergi Arís; Arnau Bonan @ornitho.cat) and 7.4 (Pere Baucells @ornitho.cat). On 9.4 one was seen at Cal Tet area, El Prat de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat (Jaume Campderròs @ornitho.cat). No activity at the nest on 16.4 (Ricard Gutiérrez).On 20.4 a bird was seen around the industrial estate, El Prat (Stephen Menzie @eBird). A bird was seen at El Prat on 25.4 (Jordi Ruestes @ornitho.cat) then another over L’Illa lagoon towards La Ricarda lagoon, El Prat de Llobregat, on 30.4 (Raúl Bastida @ornitho.cat).

(3-4) Baix Llobregat. The breeding pair at Sant Boi de Llobregat was still active in early April. On 2.4 a bird was seen near C-32 (Miguel Cornejo @ornitho.cat). Seen one on 6.4 too (Xavi Escobar @ornitho.cat). On 9.4 presumably one of these was seen at Viladecans , Baix Llobregat (Daniel Jiménez @ornitho.cat). Two birds were seen on 15.4 (Sergi Sales) and three were there on 16.4  (Nat Argullós @ornitho.cat). Three were there over C-32 motorway on 26.4 (Jonathan Skipper @ornitho.cat) and also three on 28.4 (Arnau Bonan @ornitho.cat).

(5) Bages. The (tiny) expansion of the species continues with a bird seen at  Bages comarca in April: one was at Aiguamolls de la Bòbila, Santpedor on 2.4 (Bernat Ferrer @ornitho.cat). Seen again on 3.4 (Daniel Mañas, Josep Bosch, see a thumbnail enclosed), 4.4 (Carles Martorell, Jordi Faus, Sergi Fernàndez @ornitho.cat) and 5.4 (Jordi Comellas @ornitho.cat). Still present on 7.4 (Rosa M. Alonso @ornitho.cat). On 9.4 it was seen in other Bages locations: Sant Fruitós de Bages (Sergi Fernández @ornitho.cat) and Manresa too (Sergi Fernández @ornitho.cat). On 15.4 a bird remained in the area (Sergi Fernández @ornitho.cat) and the same was seen on 16.4 (Rosa Mª Alonso; Adrián Pina, Joan Gimestells @ornitho.cat). Also present on 17.4 (Jordi Comellas, Santiago Guallar @ornitho.cat) and 18.4 (Jordi Comellas @ornitho.cat). The bird was at Aiguamoll de la Bòbila on 24.4 and 27.4  (Jordi Comellas, Bernat Ferrer @ornitho.cat).

(6) Barcelonès. There was a bird flying over Barcelona to the South on 6.4 (Antonio Rodríguez Sinovas @ornitho.cat).

(7) Barcelonès. There was a bird at Parc del Litoral, Sant Adrià de Besòs, on 28.4 (Xavi Larruy @ornitho.cat).

• Garsa blava / Azure-winged Magpie Cyanopica cooki (n=1)

 (1) Alt Empordà. The bird seen at Llançà, Alt Empordà since February 2019 was seen again at Llançà on 25.4 (Miquel Hidalgo @ornitho.cat).

• Mosquiter comú siberià / Siberian Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita tristis (n=5)

(1) Barcelonès. A tristis-like bird, seen also last 8.3.2019, continued at Parc Fluvial del Besòs, Sant Adrià de Besòs,  Barcelonès on 2.4 (ornitho.cat).

(2) Baix Llobregat. A tristis-like bird with no hint of yellow, whitish orbital ring and even a vinous tinge in the chest was seen, not heard, at Can Dimoni, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Delta del Llobregat, Baix Llobregat, on 4.4 (Ricard Gutiérrez).

(3) Alt Empordà. A tristis-like bird was seen at Mas Trencat area, PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà on 15.4 (Santiago Guallar @ornitho.cat).

(4) Baix Penedès. A bird was seen and heard at Les Madrigueres, El Vendrell, Baix Penedès on 22.4 (Ramón Ruiz Jarillo; Óscar Reche).

(5) Baix Empordà. A tristis-like bird was seen at Pals, Baix Empordà on 28.4 (Xavier Idígora @ornitho.cat).

• Mosquiter reietó / Pallas’s Leaf Warbler Phylloscopus proregulus (n=1)

(1) Alt Empordà. A bird was poorly seen but photographed (not showing the rump though) at Mas de Rabassers, Cadaqués, Alt Empordà on 29.4 (Hubert Mas @ornitho.cat).

• Boscarla d’aigua / Aquatic Warbler Acrocephalus paludícola (n=3)

(1) Alt Empordà. A bird was seen at Estany de Palau, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà on 17.4 (Albert Burgas @birdingempordà.com).

(2) Alt Empordà. A bird was reported ‘heard’ at Els Tres Ponts, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà on 21.4 (Irène & Pierre Lastère @ornitho.cat). On 22.4 a bird was seen and heard there (Pau Garcia Campderròs @ornitho.cat).

(3) Alt Empordà. Another bird was reported ‘heard’ at Estany Massot, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà on 21.4 (Mathis Baudrin @ornitho.cat).

• Tallarol xerraire / Lesser Whitethroat Sylvia curruca (n=1)

(1) Alt Empordà. A bird was seen at Estany de Palau, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà on 21.4 (Miguel Angel Fuentes @ornitho.cat).  Still there on 22.4 (Àlex Fonollosa @ornitho.cat).

• Tallarol de Moltoni / Moltoni’s Warbler Sylvia subalpina (n=3)

(1) Alt Empordà. A bird was trapped and ringed at Mas Rabassers, Cap de Creus, Alt Empordà on 27.4 (Roger Jutgla, Guillem Arrufat, Xevi Rifà @birdingemporda.com). Seen again on 30.4 (Hubert Mas @ornitho.cat).

(2) Barcelonès. A bird was seen at Parc del Litoral, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Barcelonès on 26.4 (Xavier Larruy @ornitho.cat), 27.4 (Jordi Sala @ornitho.cat) and 28.4 (Josep Bel; Vittorio Pedrocchi, Xavier Larruy @ornitho.cat).

(3) Baix Llobregat. A bird was seen on 29.4 at El Prat de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat (Xavier Larruy @ornitho.cat).

• Papamosques gris balear / Balearic Spotted Flycatcher Muscicapa tyrrhenica balearica (n=5)

(1) Alt Empordà. There was a male at vall de Montjoi, Cap de Creus, Alt Empordà on 26.4 (Àlex Ollé, Joan Goy @birdingemporda.com).

(2) Baix Empordà. A bird was at Palamòs, Baix Empordà on 27.4 (Xavier Idígora @ornitho.cat).

(3) Baix Empordà. A bird was at Castell- Platja d’Aro, Baix Empordà on 27.4 (Rosa Matesanz @ornitho.cat).

(4) Barcelonès. A bird was at Desembocadura del Besòs, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Barcelonès on 28.4 (Xavier Larruy @ornitho.cat).

(5) Baix Llobregat. On 30.4 one was seen at Cal Nani marshes, Llobregat Delta, Baix Llobregat (Pau Esteban @ornitho.cat).

• Papamosques de collar / Collared Flycatcher Ficedula albicollis (n= +116)

• 19.4.2019 Day 1 (n=2)

(1) Alt Empordà. A male was seen at Roques Negres, Roses, PN  Cap de Creus on 19.4 (Albert Alemany).

(2) Barcelonès. A bird was seen at Collserola, Barcelona city, on 19.4 (ornitho.cat).

• 20.4.2019 Day 2 (n=14)

(3-4) Alt Empordà. Two males, an adult and a 2cy were seen near the Pedret dump on 20.4 (Manel Barrios, Enric Muñoz @birdingemporda.com). Still there on 21.4 (Ramon Aguilar @birdingemporda.com). A male was still there on 23.4 (Manel Barrios @birdingemporda.com).
