Destacats / Highlights

[February 2018 begins with more individuals of the wintering species recorded so far but with a brand new Purple Sandpiper at Llobregat delta, the first for the area. It only lasted for a day and later (the same?) was seen at L’Ampolla, Delta de l’Ebre. However, the most interesting feature of this early 2018,  number of rare large gulls apart,  is the arrival of a number of Lesser Redpolls, even to Barcelona town! During the month there have been swift records of Lesser Flamingo in the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà (only lasting a day though) and a Polish ringed Caspian Gull at Lleida, the first for the area, that was only seen a few hours. Later in the month, an adult Rosy Starling caused a real twitch situation at Premià de Mar, Maresme and the last day of the month brought a mega in the form of a Steppe Grey Shrike, the 1st for Catalunya at  Baix Empordà comarca]
