L’inici del juliol és tranquil, amb les cornelles emmantellades al delta del Llobregat. Hi van haver xatracs de bec groc al delta de l’Ebre a finals de mes [July was initially quiet. The Hooded Crows were still around Llobregat Delta. Later in the month some Yellow-billed Terns were regularly seen at Ebre Delta]

  • nTerrit Pectoral / Pectoral Sandpiper Calidris melanotos  (n=1)

(1) Baix Empordà. On 30.7 a bird was seen at Baix Empordà Mas Carles ricefields (Joan Estrada Jofra, Montse Jofra).

  • Becadell gros / Great Snipe Gallinago media (n=1)

(1) Tarragonès. Late news. An exhausted bird was collected alive off Tarragona shore, over one mile out, by workers of a petrol facility on 28.6. The bird was collected by Agents Rurals who misidentified the species. However the photos were examined by early July by David Bigas who identified the bird. It probably was a male on its way back to Africa in unexpected early dates. See photos below and a thumbnail enclosed.

  • Xatrac de bec groc amb caràcters de xatrac elegant/ Orange-billed Tern Elegant Tern-like Thalasseus sp  c.f. elegans (n=2)

(1-2) Montsià. Two orange-billed terns, showing some Elegant tern features but perhaps hybrids of some kind, were seen within the Sandwich Tern colony at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l’Ebre, on 14.7 (Albert Bertolero). See photos below. According to David Bigas (in litt) it might be the same pair that bred in the area in 2017 and produced a chick then. There is a fact (J.L.Copete in litt) that supports the non pure hypothesis: the distance bteween the eye and culmen should be longer (elegans) than in these birds (after Shoch & Howell 2013 @ North American Birds), with a part of the eye after the beginning of the mouth (unlike this record birds). One of these birds phenotipically elegant-like was seen on 25.7 at El Trabucador sandbar, Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Delta de l’Ebre, Tarragona (Esther Yera, Juan L. Muñoz Pérez), see a photo below. nThe bird was seen again on 27.7 (Ricard Gutiérrez, Carles Domingo; Ramón Ruiz Jarillo), 28.7 (Sergi Sales, Ricard Gutiérrez), 29.7 (Ricard Gutiérrez) and 30.7 (Ricard Gutiérrez). See photos below.
