El COVID-19 tot just ens tenia a tothom a casa fins el 2.5 i a la primera sortida a menys d’un quilòmetre de casa, primer niu confirmat en anys de pardal de passa al Segrià [The Covid-19 had us all locked at home and the 1st allowed walk at 1 km distance from home produces the 1st recent record of a nesting Spanish Sparrow in Catalunya]

On 5.5.2005 one possible female Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus was reported at Cellers, Pallars Jussà (Jaume Bonfil). Also on 5.5.2005 a 1st summer Ring-billed Gull Larus delawarensis was seen at el Matà area, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà Natural Park, Alt Empordà (Albert Burgas; Jordi Martí-Aledo).

There were at least two Richard’s Pipits Anthus richardi at Tancada area, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià, on 1.5.2005 (Rafael Armada, Jane Nethercote).

The presumed hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta that frequented the Tancada saltpans, at Ebre delta, where it had been seen intermitently, was recorded again on 2.5.2010 (Ricard Gutiérrez). There was an almost white, but patched dark grey bird, at PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà on 2.5.2010 (Marc Gàlvez, José Guerra). See a photos enclosed (M.Gàlvez).

There was a 2cy male Pallid Harrier at closes de Can Gusó, PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà, on 10.5 (Àlex Ollé, Teresa Montràs). Four 2 cy males were seen on 14.5.2010 between Fortià and Castelló d’Empúries, Alt Empordà (Àlex Ollé, Jordi Martrí-Aledo, Enric Capalleras, Jorge García).

There was a Broad-billed Sandpiper Calidris falcinellus at Platjola – Serrallo ricefields, Delta de l’Ebre, on 5.5 (Manolo García-Tarrasón). Seen also the same afternoon (Jordi Martí-Aledo). The bird was still in the area on 8.5 (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé).See a photo enclosed (M.Garcia-Tarrasón).

One Great Snipe Gallinago media was found at El Matà area, PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà on 2.5.2010 On 5.5 a bird showed up at ‘camp del Seixanta’, PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà (Àlex Ollé; Teresa Montràs, Enric Capalleras, Berto Minobis, Joaquim Camps).

On 1.5 one adult Rosy Starling Pastor roseus was found at Eucaliptus beach, Montsià, while driving along the main road (Ricard Gutiérrez, Gerard Gutiérrez). Seen again ten minutes later. Then, and after calling some local observers, relocated an hour later in the same wide area (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé, Ricard Gutiérrez) when photographed on an Eucaliptus tree.

Fa 5 anys / 5 years agoOn 1.5.2015 a Pallid Harrier ♀ type was seen at Cerdanyola del Vallès, Vallès Occidental (Bernat Iglesias @ ornitho.cat).

Presumably one of the Broad-billed Sandpipers seen on 30.4 remained on 3.5.2015 at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Jordi Martí-Aledo).This same individual or another continued there on 12-14.5 (Jordi Martí-Aledo)

Five Great Snipes were seen in May 2015: On 14.5 a bird was seen at Filipines marsh, Delta del Llobregat, Viladecans, Baix Llobregat (Stephen Christopher; Ferran López). On 15.5 a bird was seen at Torre Albert, Roses, Alt Empordà (Àlex Ollé); on 17.5 two birds were seen at Mas Matà, PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà (Carles Oliver) and on 20.5.2105 there was a bird at Estany de Palol, Sant Miquel de Fluvià, Alt Empordà (Pere Serrano; Àlex Ollé).

The 1st Spotted Sandpiper Actitis macularius for the Llobregat Delta was a summer adult on 14.5.2015, found at Remolar lagoon mouth (Stephen Christopher). It was relocated and photographed later in the day (Ferran López; Ponç Feliu; Jaume Bartra; Josep Bel; José Angel Lahoz, Alberto Somoza) but not the following days.

On 14.5.2015 there was one Red-necked Phalarope Phalaropus lobatus and on 15.5 there were two at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l’Ebre (Jordi Martí-Aledo).

The 2nd Iceland Gull Larus glaucoides for Catalunya, a 3cy, was seen on 19.5.2015 at Llobregat river, El Prat de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat (Jordi Sala). Relocated and photographed later (Ferran López et al), see a photo below.

The Moussier’s Redstart Phoenicurus moussieri found on 30.4.2015 at l’Aufacada, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià remained there on 1.5 (Ricard Gutiérrez, Carolina García; Toni Alcocer) and 2.5 (Sergi Sales,Carolina García,Oriol Muntané,Ricard Gutiérrez; Àlex Mascarell and others) but not on 3.5 (Marc Gàlvez et al). On 20.5 a male Collared Flycatcher Ficedula albicollis was seen and photographed at Parc del Castell de Montesquiu, Osona (Jordi Erra , Jordi Faus, Josep Maria Puig @ ornitho.cat). Another male was seen on 21.5 at Pla de Campgràs, Garraf (Carles Oliver).

On 11.5.2015 a Hooded Crow Corvus cornix was found at Cal Nani, Llobregat Delta, (Ferran López). On 15.5 the same individual was relocated by the Remolar lagoon, close to El Prat de Llobregat beach (Carlos López). This bird (or another) was seen again on 23.5 at Cal Tet, Llobregat Delta (Ramon Homs @ ornitho.cat).

  • Ànec canyella / Ruddy Shelduck Tadorna ferruginea  (n=4)

(1-2) Baix Ebre. Two birds were seen coming from the sea and entering through El Fangar and El Goleró to les Olles lagoon on 4.5 (Sergi Sales). See a photo below.

(3-4) Barcelonès. A pair was flying from the sea into the Besòs river mouth, Sant Adrià de Besòs on 19.5 (Javier Valladares @eBird). They might be the two birds above but it’s impossible to know it.

 

  • Baldriga cendrosa atlàntica/ Cory’s Shearwater Calonectris borealis (n=1)

(1) Alt Empordà.  A bird was seen and photographed 6 nautic miles NE of Cap de Creus, Alt Empordà, on 22.5 (Ponç Feliu, Jaume Caball). See a photo below.

  • Baldriga capnegra / Great Shearwater Ardenna gravis (n=1)

(1) Alt Empordà.  A bird was seen at close range moving S at Cap de Creus, between the cape and Massa d’Oros island on 1.5 (Ponç Feliu).

  • Martinet dels Esculls / Western Reef Egret Egretta gularis gularis (n=1)

(1) Baix Ebre. There was a pure individual, with the usual black plumage, at l’Ampolla, Delta de l’Ebre, Baix Ebre, on 23.5 (Manolo Sánchez-Blanch).

 

  • Arpella pàl·lida russa / Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus (n=1)

(1) Bages. There was a bird at Moià, Bages, on 2.5 (Cristina Morales @ornitho.cat).

 

  • Becadell gros / Great Snipe Gallinago media (n=1)

(1) Gironès. On 5.5 a bird was flushed at Esclet, Cassà de la Selva, Gironès (Miguel Angel Fuentes @ornitho.cat).

 

  • Capsigrany balear / Balearic Woodchat Shrike Lanius senator badius (n=1)

(1) Maresme. On 2.5 a bird showing features of this subspecies was seen at Santa Susanna, Maresme  (Javier Romera @ornitho.cat).

 

  • Graula / Rook Corvus frugilegus (n=14)

(1-13) Alt Empordà. Three were seen at Figueres, Alt Empordà on 1.5 (Gerard Carrión @ornitho.cat). On 6.5 there were three at Figueres (Andreu Escolà @ornitho.cat). Ten were seen at Vilabertran, Alt Empordà on 19.5 (Albert Campsolinas @birdingemporda.com) and 13 were seen at Vilabertran too, on 20.5 (Manel Barrios @birdingemporda.com). Six were at Cabanes, Alt Empordà on 30.5 (Ernest Sala @ornitho.cat). And 13 birds, the same group, was at Castelló d’Empúries on 31.5 (Joan Ventura, Fran Trabalón @ornitho.cat).

(14) Ripollès. One was at Vilallonga de Ter, Ripollès, on 30.5 (Hubert Mas @ornitho.cat).

 

  • Cornella emmantellada / Hooded Crow Corvus cornix (n=12)

(1-5) Baix Llobregat. Sant Boi de Llobregat. One was seen at Parc de la Muntanyeta, Sant Boi de Llobregat, on 3-5.5 (Carlos Martínez Valls @ornitho.cat). The bird seen also at Sant Boi on 5.5 it was probably the same (Luis Miranda @eBird). Two at Sant Boi on 8.5 (Carlos Martínez Valls @ornitho.cat) and one at Riera Roja, Sant Boi (Luis Miranda @eBird), then one on 9.5 (Carlos Martínez Valls @ornitho.cat). On 12.5 one was seen again at Sant Boi de Llobregat (Carlos Martínez Valls @ornitho.cat). Then, on 13.5 a nest with two chicks was located at the same place where they bred in 2019, near Alcampo supermarket, Sant Boi. Two adults were also in the area (Ricard Gutiérrez). See photos below.  On 14.5 one was seen also at Sant Boi (Luis Miranda @ornitho.cat). According to Agents Rurals, the Sant Boi birds are those of the nest, moving inside the village to forage near the Muntanyeta park. One was seen in flight on 17.5 (Agents Rurals del Baix Llobregat @ornitho.cat).On 20.5 three juveniles, almost about to fly, remained in the nest at Sant Boi while the two adults were nearby (Ricard Gutiérrez),photos below. One was seen at Sant Boi on 21.5 (Carlos Martínez @ornitho.cat) and two were seen at Sant Boi too on 22.5 (Luis Miranda @eBird). One was seen carrying  food over the C-32 on 26.5 (Ricard Gutiérrez) while at least one was at the same area on 27.5 (Rafael González de Lucas @ornitho.cat) and the two adults and the nest on 30.5 (Sergi Sales @eBird). Two seen also on 31.5 (Luis Miranda @eBird).

(5-10) Baix Llobregat. El Prat de Llobregat . One was heard at the nest by the river Llobregat at El Prat on 12.5 (Ricard Gutiérrez). The chicks have to be about to leave the nest (Ferran López pers.com.). On 18.5 there were three chicks which left the nest on that day or the day after (Ferran López @deltadelllobregat bird news blog).

(11-12) Baix Llobregat. Gavà. A pair of birds with abraded wings, therefore probably 2cy individuals, were seen at La Pava, Gavà, Delta del Llobregat on 13.5 (Ricard Gutiérrez). It is not known if these are breeding or not but are different birds from (1-4) according to plumage.

  • Papamosques gris balear / Balearic Spotted Flycatcher Muscicapa tyrrhenica balearica  (n=1)

(1) Selva. On 11.5 one was seen at Tordera river mouth, Blanes, Selva (Arnau Tolrà @ornitho.cat).

 

  • Papamosques de collar / Collared Flycatcher Ficedula albicollis (n= 1)

(1) Solsonès. On 4.5 a bird was taped at night over Solsona, Solsonès (Lluís Brotons @ornitho.cat).

 

  • Pardal de passa / Spanish Sparrow Passer hispaniolensis (n=6)

(1-6) Segrià. At least two breeding pairs were located on 2-3.5 at Set river valley, Alfés, Segrià (Marc Gàlvez, José Guerra). First breeding record of the species in Catalunya in the XXI century. See photos enclosed (Marc Gàlvez). On 5.5 a male was seen there (Sergi Sales). On 6.5 at last 3 males and females, 3 built nests and a mating (José Guerra, Marc Gàlvez). See a photo below and more in their eBird list here. Still there on 9.5 (Marc Gàlvez, José Guerra @eBird). At least a male and a female were attending a nest on 31.5 (Marc Gàlvez, José Guerra @eBird). One of the nests seen in early May was destroyed.

  • Pinsà carminat / Common Rosefinch Carpodacus erythrinus (n= 1)

(1) Garrotxa. A bird was heard and taped singing at Can Ramonich, la Vall d’en Bas, Garrotxa on 30.5 (Albert Alonso). On 31.5 it was found again (Pancho Pou @ornitho.cat).
