Ricard Gutiérrez (Barcelona, 1964) is a biologist specialising in Zoology (Barcelona University, 1986) with a post-graduate degree in Economics and Environmental Management (Barcelona University 1991). He works in biodiversity conservation within the Government of Catalunya, where he was the Director of the Llobregat Delta Nature Reserves between 1990 and 2005. He also ran the Natural Parks network, and worked in coastal and sea biodiversity, particularly birds and sea mammals. Interested in the status and identification of rare birds, he was the first chairman of the CAC (Catalan Avifauna Committee) and member of the Spanish Rarities Committee for 17 years in-a-row, nine of them acting as joint secretary and two more as its chairman. He has co-authored the Spanish bird list and was the national representative of AERC (Association of European Rarities and National Lists Committees). He has published 12 scientific papers included in the SCI database, a further 38 in foreign journals, 45 book chapters and 103 more scientific publications elsewhere. Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Dutch Birding journal since 1999, he has contributed to different European birdwatching magazines such as Dutch Birding, Birding World, Birdwatch, Alula or British Birds. His main interests within ornithology are the following: species status within their biogeographic area and the establishment of occurrence patterns; the conservation of seabird and wetland species and the increase of people’s awareness of bird conservation. From 2000 he has run the website Rare Birds in Spain www.rarebirdspain.net, which has now clocked up 18 years online with thousands of records and photos. On September 2017 he created this rarebirds.cat blog.
Ricard Gutiérrez (Barcelona, 1964) és biòleg especialitzat en zoologia (Universitat de Barcelona 1986) i diplomat de postgrau en economia i gestió del medi ambient (Universitat de Barcelona 1991). Treballa en conservació de la fauna a la Generalitat de Catalunya, on va ser director de les Reserves Naturals Delta del Llobregat entre 1990 i 2005 i ha dirigit la xarxa d’espais naturals protegits, a banda de treballar en biodiversitat litoral i marina (@FaunaMarinaCat). Aficionat a l’estatus i identificació dels ocells rars, va ser el primer coordinador del CAC (Comitè Avifaunístic Català) i ha estat membre del comitè de rareses de SEO/BirdLife durant 17 anys, dels quals nou de secretari adjunt i dos de secretari general. Coautor de la llista dels ocells d’Espanya, va representar l’estat davant l’AERC (Association of European Records and Rarities Committees) i és autor de 12 articles científics inclosos al registre de la SCI, 38 a d’altres revistes estrangeres, 45 capítols de llibres i 103 altres publicacions científiques. Membre del comitè editorial de la revista Dutch Birding des del 1999, ha col·laborat a revistes europees de birdwatching com la pròpia Dutch Birding, Birding World, Birdwatch, Alula o British Birds. Els seus principals interessos en el camp de l’ornitologia són l’estatus dels ocells al seu àmbit biogeogràfic i l’esclariment dels els seus patrons d’aparició; la conservació dels ocells litorals i marins i la difusió de l’ornitologia. Des del 2000 manté la web Rare Birds in Spain www.rarebirdspain.net, amb 18 anys seguits online i milers de cites i fotos. El setembre de 2017 comença el bloc rarebirds.cat.
