Birding hotspots: Nelson Mandela bridge, El Prat de Llobregat

The Nelson Mandela bridge, at El Prat de Llobregat is the newest bridge across the river and the closest to the sea. Built over the new river section, wider than the former one, it overlooks the beggining of the Llobregat delta Nature Reserves and, most importantly, the shallower parts of the Llobregat in this part of the river. The muddy islands attract gulls, cormorants and waders as well as ducks.

Rarities seen here include the 2nd catalan Iceland Gull, Green-winged Teal, Caspian Gull or the Hooded Crow. A telescope is always interesting.

El pont de Nelson Mandela, a El Prat de Llobregat, és el més nou dels que creuen el riu i el més proper al mar. Construït sobre el riu desviat, que és més ample que el primigeni, gairebé representa el punt d’entrada a la Reserva Natural del Delta del Llobregat. A més, aquesta zona del riu acull les parts menys fondes del seu curs final, fins el punt que afloren sovint illetes de fang que agraden els ocells limícoles, corbmarins i ànecs.

Rareses vistes aquí inclouen el segon gavinot polar català, el xarxet americà, el gavià caspi o la cornella emmantellada. Un telescopi sempre us farà servei.
