Per als habitants de la segona conurbació més poblada de Catalunya, el Camp de Tarragona, no és fàcil de trobar un punt molt proper per a observar quantitat i varietat d’espècies d’ocells. Fins i tot, reblant el clau, intentar de localitzar alguna raresa.
I, si no trobem una raresa, segur que podem observar i fotografiar de prop ocells bells i interessants.
La Torre d’en Dolça, a Vila-seca, és molt a prop de Tarragona, Reus, Salou i Cambrils, és a dir, enmig dels nuclis més habitats del sud de Catalunya. Es tracta d’un parc urbà als afores de Vila-seca amb un important jardí i, el més interessant per a l’ornitòleg, quatre petites llacunes artificials on hi nidifiquen Polles d’aigua i fotges, cabussets i teixidors.
A l’hivern, qualsevol espècie d’ardèid, gavines, ànecs, flamencs, limícoles, blauet…
Un paradís, en petit i entre asfalt i indústria, però accessible en pocs minuts. Més, com que la freqüentació humana és molt gran, els ocells hi són força refiats i costa més que se’ns allunyin.
Fixeu-vos en el plafó explicatiu, fins i tot hi nidifiquen pingüins! 😉 L’únic problema greu és que no hi ha cap mena de mirador ni aguait, cosa sorprenent perquè és un lloc molt visitat per ornitòlegs i l’Ajuntament ho sap.

The Torre d’en Dolça
For those living in the second-largest Catalan urban area, that of Tarragona, the so called ‘Camp de Tarragona’, finding a proper and close place to birdwatch is not that easy. The area we present here not only holds a reasonable amount and diversity of birds, but it is also a place to look for scarcities and who knows if the odd rarity too.
Anyway, in case of not finding any scarcity, there will be interesting birds to watch and photograph.
Torre d’en Dolça, at Vila-Seca, is near Tarragona, Reus, Salou and Cambrils, just in the middle of the largest cities in S Catalunya.
It is indeed an urban park in the outskirts of Vila-Seca (near Port Aventura park and golf course, ed. comment) with an important garden and, what’s most interesting for the birder, four small ponds. Moorhens, Coots, Little Grebes and Penduline Tits breed. In the winter you may expect herons, egrets, gulls, ducks, waders, kingfishers and even flamingos.
And Yellow-browed Warblers and Black-headed Wagtails have been recorded these last years.
This is a small paradise fitted within industrial states, and urban areas, but quite conveniently located within minutes of the nearby cities or summer resorts. Furthermore, since there are many visitors to the area, the birds are quite confident and they tolerate observers.
The only regrettable point is that there is no hide or viewpoint, something surprising given this is a quite favoured place for birders. And the town council does know that.
