El començament de l’abril de 2018 va portar alguns estornells rosats, més del que és habitual, arpelles pàl·lides russes, capsigranys balears i les rareses d’aquest hivern com són la gamba groga petita i el botxí d’estepa.

[April 2018 brought a few Rosy Starlings, well over average numbers. Some Pallid Harriers were seen along with Balearic Woodchat Shrikes and the top rarities of last months still around: the Steppe Grey Shrike and two Lesser Yellowlegs ]

An Eider Somateria mollissima, nowadays a scarcer species than  before, was seen at Cambrils harbour, Tarragona, on 1.4.2003 (Pere Josa). Another was at PN Aiguamolls, Girona on 19.4.2003 (P.Feliu et al) to at least until 1.5.2003 (J.Martí Aledo). One Buff-breasted Sandpiper Calidris subruficollis was seen at PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà: 25.4.2003 (O.Clarabuch, J.Martí Aledo et al) to at least until 1.5.2003 (J.Martí Aledo).

An influx of Collared Flycatcher Ficedula albicollis ocurred with c.10 records in the month from Llobregat delta, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, l’Albera and Cap de Creus areas.

On 2.4.2008 a 3cy male and a female Pallid Harriers Circus macrourus were seen at l’estanyol, PN Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Girona (Àlex Ollé). On 22.4.2008 a single Cream-coloured Courser Cursorius cursor was found in a confidential location in S Lleida province (Juan Fernández Gil). It was together with 6 Dotterels (Charadrius morinellus). Good numbers of Great Snipe Gallinago media  were recorded at Aiguamolls de l’Empordà.

Only one Collared Flycatcher was reported: a summer-plumaged male was detected on 25.4.2008 at Besós river, Sant Adrià de Besós, Barcelona (Xavier Larruy; Marcel Gil, Quique Carballal and others).

A influx of Pallid Harriers brought at least 18 birds to Catalunya, 12 from Girona comarcas , one from Lleida steppes and five from Barcelona comarcas. An Isabelline Wheatear Oenanthe isabellina was seen at Vilobí d’Onyar, Girona on 30.4.2013 (Miguel Angel Fuentes). Largest ever influx of Collared Flycatchers to date brought 16 individuals to Catalunya, mostly at coastal sites.

The sole Iberian record of Brown-necked Raven Corvus ruficollis was that of a bird, probably ship-assisted, found at Vila-Seca, Tarragonès, on 11.4.2013 (Eduard Gràcia; Albert Cama; Vittorio Pedrocchi).

  • Cabussó orellut / Slavonian grebe Podiceps auritus (n=1)

(1) Baix Ebre. A bird seen this winter was seen again at l’Ampolla, Baix Ebre from 2-3.4 (Manolo Sánchez-Blanch). Last seen on 9.4 off L’Ampolla (Manolo Sánchez-Blanch).

 

  • nFlamenc menut / Lesser Flamingo  Phoeniconaias minor (n=1)

(1) Montsià. A bird was seen at La Platjola lagoon, amongst a large Phoenicopterus roseus group, from 1470 meters distance at Eucaliptus, Amposta (Ricard Gutiérrez, Helena Arbonés). See a record long-range digiscoping shot below.

  • Arpella pàl·lida russa / Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus (n=10)

(1) Segrià. A male was seen at Alfés dryland on 2.4 (Ricard Busquets @ ornitho.cat).

(2) Pla d’Urgell. A male was seen near Ivars d’Urgell on 4.4 (Quim Minoves).

(3) Alt Empordà. On 5.4 an adult female was seen at Masarac, Alt Empordà (Albert Burgas @ ornitho.cat).

(4) Pallars Jussà. A male was seen at l’Ull de la Bulla, Basturs, Isona on 7.4 (Jordi Castilló @ornitho.cat).

(5) Osona. A 2cy male was seen at La Gleva, Manlleu on 7.4 (Ramon Prat @ornitho.cat)

(6) Pla d’Urgell. The bird seen on 4.4 or another was seen near Linyola, Pla d’Urgell, on 8.4 (Josep Ignasi Tejedor @ornitho.cat)

(7)Segrià. On 9.4 a male was seen at Alfés, Segrià (Javier Subirats)

(8) Alt Empordà. On 9.4 a bird was seen at Mas de la Torre, Palau-saverdera (Àlex Ollé). See a photo below.

(9) Baix Ebre. On 12.4 a male was reported at L’Ampolla, Baix Ebre (Manolo Sánchez-Blanch).

(10) Baix Empordà. On 25.4 a 2cy was seen at Albons,  Baix Empordà (Jorge García @ birdingempordà.com).

 

  • Territ de  Baird / Baird’s Sandpiper Calidris bairdii  (n=1)

(1) Montsià. On 15.4 a bird was seen and photographed at Punta de la Banya, Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (David Bigas). See two photos below.

  • Territ pectoral / Pectoral sandpiper Calidris melanotos  (n=1)

(1) Baix Empordà. On 26.4 a bird was seen and photographed at La Pletera, l’Estartit, Torroella de Montgrí, Baix Empordà (Albert Burgas). See a photo below.

  • Escuraflascons de Wilson / Wilson’s Phalarope Phalaropus tricolor (n=1)

(1) Montsià. On 21.4 a bird was seen and photographed at Punta de la Banya, Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (David Bigas). See two photos below.

  • Gamba groga petita / Lesser Yellowlegs Tringa flavipes (n=2)

(1) Baix Empordà. The overwintering bird at Pals ricefields was seen again on 1.4 (Carles Vendrell, Oriol Miralles, Jean Bisetti @ornitho.cat), 3.4 (Albert Burgas @ornitho.cat) and 5.4 (Ricard Gutiérrez, Emma Guinart). The bird at Baix Ter remained in the area on 8.4 (Albert Burgas).

(2) Baix Ebre . There was a bird at Canal Vell Biological station canal, Deltebre, on 1.4 (David Bigas), see photos below. Still there on 7.4 (David Bigas) and 8.4 (Gorka Gorospe et al; Ricard Gutiérrez, Helena Arbonés).  Present at Canal Vell canal on 11.4 (Mayca Martí). On 14.4 it was reported as moved to Les Olles canal, L’Ampolla, Baix Ebre (Manolo Sánchez-Blanch). The bird was seen again at Canal Vell  canal later: on 15.4 and 21.4 it was relocated at Canal Vell canal, Deltebre, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Harold Wijts @ornitho.cat). Seen again on 22.4 (Manolo Sánchez-Blanch; Sergi Sales et al).

(1) Baix Empordà. The bird found on 28.2 at Serra de Daró, Baix Empordà was still at Serra de Daró, Baix Empordà on 1.4 (Julio Ruiz Ballesteros; Toni Fernández, Fran Trabalón @ ornitho.cat), 2.4 (Àlex Sastre; Ramon Prat @ ornitho.cat); 3.4 (Jean  Bisetti @ ornitho.cat); 4.4 (Bruno Duchenne; Christian Kerihuel @ ornitho.cat) and 5.4 (Ricard Gutiérrez, Emma Guinart).   • Capsigrany balear / Balearic Woodchat Shrike Lanius senator badius (n=16)

(1) Barcelonès. On 4.4 a bird was seen at Parc Fluvial del Besòs, Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Xavier Larruy @ ornitho.cat).

(2) La Selva. On 6.4 a bird was found at Pla de la riera d’Arbúcies, Sant Feliu de Buixalleu, La Selva (Arnau Tolrà @ ornitho.cat).

(3) Baix Empordà. On 7.4 a bird was seen at Bassa del Frare Ramon, Torroella de Montgrí (Albert Burgas, Júlio Pérez Cañestro, Xavier Gámez).

(4) Montsià. On 8.4 a bird was seen at El Violí, Sant Jaume d’Enveja (Xavier Parra @ornitho.cat).

(5) Baix Empordà. A bird was seen at Can Tarradas, Santa Cristina d’Aro, Baix Empordà, on 10.4 (Xavier Idígora). See two photos below.

(6) Barcelonès. A bird was seen at Parc Fluvial del  Besòs, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Barcelonès from 10-11.4  (Xavi Larruy @ornitho.cat).

(7) Baix Llobregat. A bird was trapped and ringed at Remolar beach, Viladecans, Delta del Llobregat, Baix Llobregat on 15.4 (Oriol Baltà @ornitho.cat).

(8) Baix Llobregat. On 15.4 a bird was seen at the former river mouth of Llobregat river, El Prat de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat (Marcel Gil @ornitho.cat).

(9) Montsià. On 3.4 a 2cy female was at Punta de la Banya, Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Delta del’Ebre, Montsià (David Bigas).

(15) Montsià. On 29.4 a bird was at Magraners, Els Muntells, Sant Jaume d’Enveja, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (David Bigas). See a BOC photo enclosed.

(16) Montsià. On 30.4 a bird was seen at El Trabucador, Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Quim Minoves).

 

 

 

 

  • Cornella emmantellada / Hooded Crow Corvus cornix (n=5)

 (1-2) Baix Llobregat. On 6.4 the pair breeding at Llobregat river, El Prat de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat continued attending the nest (Enric Morera). One of the birds of the pair was seen again near the river on 8.4 (Quique Carballal). Two were by the Nelson Mandela bridge on 19.4 (Jaume Campderròs @ornitho.cat) and one bird was by the river Llobregat at El Prat on 21.4 (Marc Noguera @ornitho.cat). The bird at the nest remained there on 25.4 (Ferran López @ consorci deltallobregat bird news). nBy late April there were chicks in the nest (Ferran López).

 (3) Baix Llobregat. On 9.4 a bird with a damaged wing was lingering near La Pava, Gavà, Baix Llobregat (Sergi Sales).There was a bird at La Pava on 21.4 (Raül Bastida) and 23.4 (Guillem Rius @ornitho.cat).

(4-5) Baix Llobregat. Two birds seem to have took residence around Sant Feliu de Llobregat,  Baix Llobregat. On 12.4 two birds were at Sant Feliu de Llobregat (Xavi de Izaguirre). On 13.4 one of those  birds was seen at Poliesportiu Salvador Gimeno, Sant Joan Despí, Baix Llobregat (Mireia Sales). See a smartphone photo enclosed.   • Mosquiter comú siberià / Siberian Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita tristis (n=3)

(1) Barcelonès. A bird showing some tristis characters was trapped and ringed at Parc Fluvial del  Besòs, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Barcelonès on 7.4  (Xavi Larruy @ornitho.cat).

(2) Baix Llobregat. A bird was heard singing at Cal Tet hide, El Prat de Llobregat, Llobregat Delta, Baix Llobregat on 9.4 (Ferran López, Sergi Bosch).

(3) Alt Empordà. On 15.4 a bird was seen and heard at Camping Almatà, Castelló d’Empúries, Alt Empordà (Cédric Peignot @ornitho.cat).

 

  • Tallarol de Moltoni / Moltoni’s Warbler Sylvia subalpina (n=3)

(1) Montsià. On 23.4 a bird was seen & heard calling at  Migjorn, Sant Jaume d’Enveja, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Sergi Sales et al). Still there on 24.4 (Carles Oliver et al).

(2) Montsià. On 27.4 a bird was at El Trabucador, Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé). Seen again on 28.4 (Jesús Menéndez). Still there on 29.4 (Quique Carballal) and heard singing later (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé, Ricard Gutiérrez).

(3) Baix Empordà. On 30.4  a bird was seen and recorded at Calonge, Baix Empordà (Xavier Idígora).

 

  • Papamosques gris balear / Balearic Spotted Flycatcher Muscicapa tyrrhenica balearica (n=1)

(1) Montsià. On 27.4 a bird was seen at El Trabucador, Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé). See a photo below. nSeen later also by more authors (Javier Subirats; Anna Palacín @ornitho.cat).

(2) Montsià. On 29.4 there were three Spotted Flycatchers at Baladres, Erms de la Tancada, Amposta, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià. One of them was a baleàric, according to undewing colour pattern (Poli Hernàndez; Ricard Gutiérrez, Helena Arbonés). There was a regular striata bird and a confusing pale individual which showed browner axillaries, hence striata too. Seen again on 30.4 (David Bigas; Quim Minoves).

(3) Montsià. On 30.4 another bird was sene at l’Alfacada, Sant Jaume d’Enveja, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Quim Minoves).

 

  • Estornell rosat  / Rosy Starling Pastor roseus (n=4)

(1) Baix Llobregat. A 1w bird was seen at Camí de cal Silet, El Prat de Llobregat on 4.4 (Jordi Ruestes).

(2) Baix Llobregat. A different bird, a presumed adult, was seen at Can Dimoni, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Llobregat delta, Baix Llobregat on 7.4 (Ignacio López).

(3) Baix Llobregat. A 1w bird was found near cal Nani, El Prat de Llobregat, Llobregat delta, Baix Llobregat on 7.4 (Ferran López).

(4) Baix Llobregat. On 20.4 an adult was seen and heard singing at Carrabiners, El Prat de Llobregat, Delta del Llobregat, Baix Llobregat (F.Xavier Santaeufemia). On 21.4 it was setill there (Marc Noguera; Julio Ruiz  Ballesteros @ornitho.cat) and on 22.4 too (Lluís Gustamante). This bird remained in the area until 26.4 (Ferran López).

 

  • Papamosques de collar / Collared Flycatcher Ficedula albicollis (n=1)

 (1) Montsià. A male was seen and photographed on 17.4 at Bassa de les Ventalles, Ulldecona, Montsià (Vicent Tamarit) . See two photos below.

    Papamosques menut / Red-breasted Flycatcher Ficedula parva (n=1)

 (1) Montsià. On 19.4 a bird was seen and photographed at Eucaliptus old campsite wood, Amposta, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (Roser Solé, Josep Tantull). Not relocated on 20.4 (same authors).

  • Cuereta groga balcànica / Black-headed Wagtail Motacilla flava feldegg (n=3)

 (1) Baix Empordà. On 2.4 a male was seen at Forallac, Baix Empordà (Oriol Miralles @ ornitho.cat).

 (2) Alt Empordà. On 14.4 a male was photographed at can Comes fields, Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, Alt Empordà (Quim Martínez, Miquel Arxer @ birdingempordà.com)

(3) Baix Llobregat. On 17.4 a male was seen at Cal Tet, El Prat de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat (Ferran López). See a video from the author below (Ferran López).

 

(4) Montsià. On 23.4  a bird was seen and photographed at Migjorn grassfields, Sant Jaume d’Enveja, Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià (David Bigas). See a thumbnail of the bird. n Perhaps the same bird remained in the Violí area on 29.4 (Quim Minoves).

  • Passerell gola-negre / Lesser Redpoll Acanthis cabaret (n=1)

 (1) Solsonès. The bird found on 9.2 at Solsona, S of the city near C-75, Solsonès remained there on 1.4 (Quique Carballal, Javier Valladares @ornitho.cat).
